Instructor: Mrs. Conrad
Hello Room 11 Families,
My name is Melissa Conrad and I am so excited to have joined the wonderful first grade team at Sequoia Elementary! I taught for ten years in Southern California before taking some time off to be home with my two children. It's so great to be back in the classroom teaching, and I truly enjoy teaching first graders. They are full of enthusiasm and excited to learn new things. I know this school year is going to be a productive and fun one in Room 11!

Week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3
Hello! I hope everyone had a restful weekend and enjoyed the sunshine and slightly warmer weather! :)

The students did so well in the spell-a-thon! I graded the tests and turned them in last Friday so the committee could tally up the results. I believe I should have them back by this Friday to send home. At this point you can start collecting pledge money. All pledge money is due on Feb. 17.

Homework this week is the regular computer homework. No word wall words this week.

Thank you!
Mrs. Conrad
Week of Jan. 23-27
The Spell-a-Thon is this Wednesday! Hopefully your child has been practicing their list over the past few weeks. We will do the Spell-a-Thon in class on Wednesday. Sometimes parent volunteers volunteer to grade the tests. If you are interested in grading tests please let me know. They need to be graded and turned into the office no later than Friday, so keep in mind it will be a quick turn around.

We are keeping homework simple again this week so the students can spend time studying their spelling. In addition to Spell-a-Thon prep, please have your child do 20 minutes of online programs of their choice each night. (iReady, IXL, Raz Kids)

Have a great week! It looks like we have some sun in our future (yay!) It will be good for the kids to be able to get outside to play! :)

Hello Parents,
It was wonderful to meet with most of you last week. I look forward to the remaining conferences scheduled for this week.
Thank you very much to everybody who has contributed to the "adopt-a-child" program and to the auction basket for this spring's gala fundraiser. It is not too late to contribute to the basket. You may send in your donation in the envelope provided several weeks ago, or contact our class room parents for more information.

I've also created and emailed out links for signing up for Art Appreciation volunteers and Star Student sign ups. Those links can be found here:

We had a great week two in Room 11! Thank you so much for attending Back to School night on Tuesday. It was lovely meeting the parents of the 21 happy faces I spend my days with. :)

We will not be starting computer based homework for a few weeks still, so look for a paper assignment to come home in your child's homework folder next week on Tues., Wed. and Thurs. The homework assignments are always due the next day unless I specify otherwise.

Have a wonderful three day weekend with family and friends!
